ETHIOPIAN STEW
(ZUGNEE)
INGREDIENTS:
- 1/4 cup semne.
- 2 onions,
chopped.
- 3 cloves
garlic crushed with 1/2 teaspoon salt.
- 1 can(180g)
tomato paste.
- 2 tomatoes,
chopped.
- 1 chicken, cut
up OR 1/2 kilo beef or lamb, cubed.
- 1 cup of
water.
- 1+1/2
tablespoons red ber-beri powder.
STEP
BY STEP:
- Saute the onions in the semne until softened.
- Put in the garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
- Add the ber-beri powder and keep it for about 3 minutes.
- Add the tomatoes, the tomato paste and the water and mix
very well, cook for 15 minutes.
- Add the meat and some more water, cover.
- Keep it until it boils, reduce heat and keep it covered.
- The chicken will be done in about 45 minutes, the beef
or lamb needs about 2 hours.
- Taste and add some salt and pepper.
- Serve it with salad, and it is also good with rice.
NOTICE:
You
can add some vegetables to the stew such like potatoes or green beans.
